Applications for financial support
Citizen’s allowance (Bürgergeld) (formerly Hartz IV)
What is it? Monthly money for people who are unemployed or earn little. You pay rent, food, and other things with it.
Where to apply? At the job center (Jobcenter) Regensburg

What is it? Monthly money from the state for each child. Currently €250 per child. You get it if you have a residence permit (Aufenthaltserlaubnis).

What is it? Rent subsidy for people with low income who do not receive citizen’s allowance (Bürgergeld). The state helps to pay the rent.

What is it? Extra money for children: school materials, school lunches, excursions, sports clubs. If you receive citizen’s allowance (Bürgergeld), your children are entitled to it.

Landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung)
What is it? When you move, your landlord must fill out this certificate. You need it for registration (Anmeldung) at the town hall (Rathaus) (within 2 weeks after moving!).
Where? Have it filled out by the landlord, then go to the town hall (Rathaus)

What is it? With this, you can apply for cheap social housing. You need it if your income is low.

What is it? A social pass for the district of Regensburg. You get discounts on buses, sports, culture, and adult education center (VHS) courses (e.g., 50% discount on the Eco-Ticket).

Forms for doctor and health insurance
Exemption from co-payments for health insurance (Zuzahlungsbefreiung Krankenkasse)
What is it? If you have little money, you have to pay less out-of-pocket at the doctor or pharmacy. Above a certain limit (2% of income), you can get an exemption.
Where to apply? At your health insurance company (Krankenkasse) – collect receipts!
Exemption from broadcasting fee (Befreiung Rundfunkbeitrag)
What is it? Every household must pay €18.36 per month for radio and television. If you receive citizen’s allowance (Bürgergeld), you can get an exemption!
How? Fill out the online form and send it in with the notification letter (Bescheid)

Forms for profession and training
Recognition of foreign qualifications (Anerkennung ausländischer Abschlüsse)
What is it? If you have completed vocational training or studies in your home country, you can have it checked whether the qualification is valid in Germany.
